Frequently Asked Questions

We sell our products in two standard units of measure. Cubic Yards or Tons in four standard size loads.

A cubic yard is a three-dimensional unit of measure that determines the volume of a cube whose edge is a specific amount. L x W x D divided by 27. There are 27 cubic feet in each cubic yard.

Standard size loads are 3 cubic yards, 6 cubic yards or 12 cubic yards. However, we can deliver any quantity from one cubic yard to forty cubic yards depending on the product. Some products are heavier than others are.

Typically, it will take nine loads in a three cubic foot wheelbarrow to carry one cubic yard.

– Sandy Loam Topsoil – approximately 2,400 lbs.

– Sand – approximately 2,600 lbs.

– Gravel – approximately 2,750 lbs.

At a depth of three inches, one cubic yard covers approximately 100 s.f. two inches approximately 200 s.f., or one inch at 300 s.f. Note: Coverage is an estimate and may vary based on job conditions.

Two thousand pounds.

When material is spread or leveled at one-inch thick covers 250 s.f. two inches covers 125 s.f., and three inches covers 75 s.f. Note: Coverage is an estimate and may vary based on job conditions.

The weight for a yard of gravel varies based on the type of gravel. For example, landscaping gravel weighs less than pea gravel. In general, a yard of gravel weighs between 1.25 – 1.35 tons (2,400 – 2,800 lb.) per cubic yard.

Typically, we need 24 – 48 hours notice for delivery. However, we can deliver the same day on occasions we get enough notice.

Multiple products cannot be delivered in the same truck because there is no way to keep them separated so they get all mixed together.

Deliveries can be dumped in multiple places within 4 blocks. However, there is a fee for each additional dump.

Yes! Earth Haulers constantly recycles and re-purposes dirt and other products brought in for disposal at our facility.

Calculating Amounts

1 cubic yard will cover the following amount of square feet at the given depth. So, to fill a material 2″ deep in a given square foot area, you would divide the square footage by 162. To fill it 6″ deep, divide by 54, and so on.

1/4″ Deep….1296 sq. ft.
1″ Deep….324 sq. ft.
2″ Deep….162 sq. ft.
3″ Deep….108 sq. ft.
4″ Deep….81 sq. ft.
6″ Deep….54 sq. ft.
12″ Deep….27 sq. ft.

>> Max load on a small pickup is 1 1/2 yards.
>> Most full-size pickups can carry 1 cubic yard of stone or topsoil (weight restricted).
>> Small single-axle dump truck load is 5 yards.
>> Big dump trucks are 10 or 15 yards.
