Organic Compost
Compost is a natural recycling process, that takes organic waste and turns that matter into healthy useful soil! In most households 25-50% of what we throw away is food and yard waste; composting can significantly cut down on your overall trash and can improve the condition of your yard or garden. Organic compost can improve the quality of almost any soil, and is often considered a soil conditioner, because the organic matter found in compost introduces vital nutrients to a garden, like nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium among others.
Adding compost to the soil in your yard or garden can:
-
Reduce soil compaction, allowing in more water and air, making it easier for plants and grass to grow
-
Inhibit erosion
-
Improve moisture retention
-
Improve the structure and texture of the soil. Soil with good structure has a crumbly texture, drains well, retains some moisture, and is easy to turn over
-
Incorporate organic matter to feed the organisms that maintain healthy soil. Those organisms can even decompose organic compounds, such as manure, plant residue and pesticides, preventing them from entering water and becoming pollutants.
